January's Brush

The closing week of each month usually carry the most memorable moments. First long distance run of 15km in 2010,running the longest project marathon, completing 2 interviews that were running consecutively at 2 different locations, and ending off with a short reunion with camp mates.

The second year, is where relatively short timeframes for projects to be completed are implemented, either you're revising yur stuff, or you would be rushing to complete the last paragraph of a section in the report so that you could continue on the next section, and in turn complete and submit the project in time.

The last weekday of January, was a rather agonising day, where I noticed seconds lasting nearly as long as hours, and hours as long as a day. I had barely completed the final touches to our project, which was due for presentation that afternoon. In addition to the presentation, I was due for an important intervew, in which I was playing for extremely high stakes, with the probability of making it through being 11/20. Who wouldn't want to be part of a 2-week, heavily subsidised trip to another continent at the other side of the world? It's great thinking about the reward waiting on the other side of the pasture, but the path leading to it, is filled with countless mines and traps, threatening to stop me at my first step.

Fast forward to 3.50pm on Friday, I was about to get ready for a presentation, when a call arrived. It was my turn for the interview, when I was just about to get ready for the presentation. My mind, was filled with nothing but a white void. The walk to the Student Services Office seemed like an hour, when it took only 5 minutes. I felt as thouh I lost my voice upon arriving. 5 minutes later, I was invited into the room. For once, I felt traces of my voice return, only to realise that, I was unable to think clearly on my feet, which caused much panic. On the inside, I was calm, but on the outside, I was contanly tiking of what I should add on to my statement to make it better. Constant clashes led to a breakdown, and I simply paused. 5 seconds, 10 seconds, and I said a sentence or two to complete what I wanted to say.

In just 2 minutes(maybe more), I was touching the cold, metal handle of the doors which would return me to the comfort of my friends. I did not turn back, but kept moving forward. The same, cold, dark feeling which I felt inside me on my first driving test after commiting my first immediate failure mistake, returned once again, this time bringing with it double the agony. In your local drama, staying in the 'cell' for less than 5 minutes is akin to receiving the death sentence. For me, it meant brushing wih death and returning to life. It's just an experience like no other. If it wasn't my time yet, I would be receiving that golden ticket to board that plane. I have made the choice within those 2 minutes, to prove myself. It's now up to fate, to decide which path I should take at the crossroads in June. With no regrets, I shall now leave it aside for the timebeing, lest the ticket really did manage to find its way to me.

Back in the classroom, Yingfeng was concluding the presentation. There were only a couple of mistakes, but overall, he did really well.

Had a great evening letting the pain go with Cardus, Jaemeng and Jorge at Dhoby Ghaut that evening. If not for them, I might still be lying in bed, penning down every little regret I had, right after I left the room. After a great night(withut drinks, of course), I felt as though nothing had happened.

Just yesterday, went on a 6km run with Hongpeng at East Coast, revisiting part of the 42km route I ran back in December. I completd the run at my average time of 35minutes. Went home, slept the afternoon away, and drove my third return journey to dinner via expressway.

Today went pretty well, with lots of stuff being settled. Reached home, went for a short 4km run, with a feeling I had never felt before. With every step, I felt as though I was gliding on air. Never fel so great before. Wondering whether it was the reduced weight of my stomach(had my dinner only after the run), or it was the run I had the previous day which provided the boost. Completed the run in 22minutes.

Lately, I had been dreaming of stuff, which could happen on the same day I had the dream(which could freak me out at times), and thinking of random people at random times, and seeing them appear in front of me just a couple of seconds later.

Tomorrow, it's time to return to the books and projects.

We Came, We Ran, We Conquered

Sunday, December 6. The first time I completed 42.195km in one shot. Wasn't that bad, though there were moments.

We woke at 3, and left 40minutes later. The lights weren't on, so I wasn't able to notice the colour of his bag. Took a cab down to the baggage deposit point at the War Memorial Park. Just after we were on our way, we were at the 37km mark of the race. It was kind of like a preview of what things would be like hour later. We were rather early, so we put our stuff down, deposited our bags, and he left his phone there in his bag. First thought. What's the best way to keep in contact should the worst case scenario occur(separation)?

The first 13km was breeze. We completed the first 10km in 47minutes! That's my new personal best. At 14km, I started to feel a minor symptom of heat exhaustion. I felt some numbness in my body. Immediately, I told him we had better stop at the next water point. We did, though that caused problems for him and myself later on. I took a mint to consume. It helped a great deal! Within minutes I was ready to go, but sadly, he started having cramps. 15km, the first runner was on his way out of East Coast Park. We were barely 100 meters into the park. That was the worst part of the run. The East Coast stretch covered 15kilometers alone,with lots of slopes, bends and turns. We started running again after that water point, but since he was pushing me on, I decided to just keep up with him. But, after we passed the 16km mark, it was his turn.

For us, the real challenge came prematurely. At the 22km mark, it was the start of the mental war. It was fine, until he felt really unwell at the 29km mark. Since there were 2 medics, 2 officials, and another 5 volunteers at the water point at Station 16. Dropped him off there, more than an hour after our walk. I continued running, and met a friend along the way, joined him for another 5 minutes, before carrying on the race against my own time. I was aiming to complete the run in under 6 hours, with the expected time to be between 4 hours 30 minutes and 6 hours.

Since my engines were rather cold after that long break, I started feeling pain in the chest after running 2km after the 30km mark. I stopped, walked a little, and carried on at the 35km mark.
This time, the stitch arrived. I walked another 2 kilometers, before I was back on form. The 37-kilometer mark. It was fine until after the 38km mark, when my left calf had a mild cramp that lasted for less than a second. It felt like a rubberband that hit me lightly. I started walking a little, before running again. Turning into the F1 Pit area, I started walking again as I felt the second warning sign of a cramp. This time, I felt two rubberbad-like hits on my left calf. Fearing the worst, I walked the next 2kilometers. Walking along the building, I had a sense of deja vu. Some time ago, I had a dream of being part of a tour group I was with, at some building where there were lots of shutters with numbers on top of them. One of the shutters was halfway down, similar to what I saw in the dream, along with some music. The atmosphere there was similar, minus the marathon event. I came back to the flier. It's the 41-kilometer mark! I made 2 calls, one to my dad, which happened to be diverted back home(and I found out my brother had just gotten his new bike), and one to my mum, who was already waiting at the finish line since an hour ago. Alright, the last 1.195, I'll give it a sprint. I saw the timer counting away, with the time being 6 hours, 50minutes and 15seconds. I increased my speed, completing the run in 6hours, 50minutes and 28seconds. Physicaly, I felt really bad after that, but mentally, it felt I was at some grand celebration.

Anyways, today was a really bad day. I had 3 near accidents owing to my slow reaction(I wanted very much to cancel the training, but as it was less than 48 hours prior to the training time when I logged into the system, I decided to just go ahead with it. $60 for a session. If they would refund me the cash on the spot, I wouldn't mind cancelling it), all similar to one another. Other vehicles were wanting to enter my lane, but I kept going at constant speed, not noticing them, forcing them to make dangerous moves that could cause a fatal accident. But it was a good experience, although it would be best I did not repeat it again.

School, was a nightmare, when we were informed last minute that part of our plans could not be approved owing to some communication breakdown. Today, my team and I found a class that had the exact opposite gender distribution of one of the classes in our course!

I just hope tomorrow could be a better day. And I still think, the guy who won himself a place in the finals, would be doing the country a great deed by giving it to the girl who was more deserving of the position, but was eliminated for the wrong reasons, though it proves that miracles do happen.

I had yet another weird dream the night before, but it's a little personal to be posted up here. One thing, if that could happen in real life, it would be a miracle.

30 Days Later...

It's been a month hasn't it? Anyways, alot sure has happened in September alone. The start seemed fine, but as the days passed, it just got worse. Felt like a freefall that never ended. Wore a chute on my back, but never saw the need to release it to glide back to thes afety of the ground. This month, I had been dreaming. Lots of dreams that seem so real they might really become a reality in the near future. Some, I wished they would really happen. Some, I hoped not to dream of again. And some, I did not want to come true. However, there is some sort of a pre-requisite for the particular dream to come true. The more things I can remember from a dream, the clearer it is, the greater the chances that particular dream would come true.

First there's something that has been going on since the start of the year, but whether it would end the way I saw in a dream back in July, I really don't know.

Here's the dream. It took place in total darkness. Only voices could be heard. It all started with me meeting a girl, and soon, I came to know another guy and 2 more girls. We started chatting about everything under the sun. However, due to a simple problem about relationships, the bond was badly shaken. Rapidly, we stood strong and recovered. Sadly, things started getting worse, and a friend was lost. The mood was nearly back to normal after that when, all of a sudden I simply lost all connection with them.

On the 5th, I went for a competition. The day before, went with parents and brother to West Mall to change our handsets. My second phone(SE k770i) lost sensitivity to some keys a month back. I got myself the N63. Went home, played around with it a little, before turning in early that night. Had a competition the following morning.

Overslept that Sunday morning, rushed down and got ready. Very chaotic, as I did not know what to do. There was this Chinese student fro NUS, who gave me encouragement instead of giving me the "I'm-so-going-to-get-you-if-I-see-you-at-the-next-round" kind of look. The words,"Don't be so tense" still lingers whenever I remember the moments before the match. He wasn't my opponent. He was the opponent of my opponent. I went down, mentally prepared about the possibilities that I might be breathing my last breath down at the court. Once again, I had dreamt about it back during the June break. I was asked if I was fine at the end of the second round, and I foolishly requested to go on to the end. The dream ended when I was dealt two direct hits to the same spot on my head and I woke in shock.

So, we went in, got ready, and there we exchanged blows. He had the gangster-like look, but I didn't really care. Anyways, he made the first move. A combo to the stomach and head. That one left me seeing double for a couple of seconds. He continued to give me another kick to the chin, but fortunately, that was not considered as a hit. That's the first round. Took a breather, the coach advised me to make the first move in the second round. I did, and secured 2 points. The score now, was 2 to 4. He gave another blow to the head, this time my right, but the score remained. The round ended, still with a score of 2-4. This time I was really feeling giddy. The question came. I decided to go on. I made the first move, but failed to score a point. As I went for the head, he was faster and gave me a direct to the stomach once again, at the same spot. This time, an official and the coach stepped in, called for a medic, and called off the match. Went for lunch with the committee, before heading back, to wait for the prize presentation. I won a bronze.

After that, went to Bugis to meet up with some long lost friends from primary 6. There were 9 of us. Mr and Mrs Choy(Ms Wong, our relief teacher for the first semester in 2003) and their daughter joined us for dinner at Pasta Mania at Bugis. They left after we took photographs together, before we went down to Starbucks to slack till 10.45pm before taking the bus home. Reached home around 12.

Thats pretty much the first week of September. The next day, Monday, was the day I had my first driving lesson. Shall cover that over the next few posts, as I had already completed 19 lessons to date.

Day One, Week 11, Semester 1, 2009

Today, was supposed to be a good start to the new term. At least the lessons of the day were. Managed to grasp everything that was taught from start to end, and as expected, things would start to get messy once again. Had AM, TH and IA. For TH, the tutor was the best. He sent us on a tour, before getting involved in it as well and we got down to business 20 minutes later. As or IA, well, I did better than what I had expected(grades would be discussed at the end of the week).

Rushed home, accessed the internet to see what events there were for the Asian Youth Games, before leaving for school again, forgetting to turn the computer off.

CCA was still alright, except that, I seriously doubt my readiness to participate in the PA competition next Saturday. At the moment, I am definitely not ready. Even the instructors think so through their comments. Perhaps, I'll give it one last shot next Monday during training, and decide if I really want to take part, or wait till the next competition in March next year. While I noticed the seriousness of only training on Mondays, I'm losing out in many things as well. I have too many commitments that I hardly have time to study. Perhaps, the time to really sit down and decide what to keep and what not to keep, is drawing closer with every passing day.

That aside, I realised that after I recovered from a virus which made me run a fever and flu(don't worry, it's the seasonal flu), my stamina has been decreasing slowly. I go on my usual evening run every weekend, but I noticed, each time I went for the run, the distance I could cover without walking was decreasing. Come Saturday, I'll start from scratch again, with the 3km route, slowly increasing it to 4km, 6km, 9km and finally, 14km. There's about less than 6 months before the 42km marathon in December. Good thing I have the usual trainings on Monday, free time on Tuesdays and Saturdays to prepare for it. I have decided. Once I enter my final year, I'll commit to only 2 CCAs(the first and last I ever joined). I have thoughts of joining Badminton in the second semester of the final year, but I'll put that aside till we're closer to that period of time.

Once we enter the weekends, It's time to get down to business to make that final 7-week sprint for the FINAL.

End of the Storm

Actually, it has ended quite some time ago, just that, I'm breaking the news late. Finally found time to update, so here I am posting(of course). This is so going to be one extremely long post.So, ya, do read if you think you have got the time and interest to.

Last weekend was the very first time I fought in a Inter Varsity-Polytechnic championship(IVP). Went to NTU on Saturday to gain some first-hand experience of full-contact sparring at the tertiary level. The difficulty of each match varied greatly, depending on the amount of experience each side had, as well as the expectations of the judges and referee.

On Sunday, I experienced my first match. That, was the third time I wore the head gear since I first joined the sport as a CCA. Was extremely afraid before the day started, but as time passed, I found myself becoming someone very different(I wasn't that quiet self, my confidence level was very high, and I forgot the meaning of fear). However, the match was fast paced. We were both very fast, but he was just faster. 2 moves by me would be equal to 3 of his.

The very first counter that was dealt was a direct hit. It was a very nice score, though it left me stunned for a couple of seconds. The intensity of the blow was similar about 10% of Adrian's. to Each time I attacked, it would only end up with me being countered. I tried to retreat to time my counter, but that, too failed. So, I sort of gave up, and decided to take the blow when he attacked, go close(close enough that it seemed as though we were hugging), and try to make my move once he forced me away. The first part ended with a devastating 4-0 score( I knew I had 2 hits, though they were not very clear to the judges).

In the second round, I tired the same thing, except that I attempted to aim for his head this time round. It proved fatal. Two attempts met with two swift, direct counters. I gave up, decided to buy time, so that even if I lost, it would be about 30 seconds or so into the second round before I lost. Everything ended in the evening, so went to Jurong Point for dinner before going home.

After that match, the storm ended. Relaxation here I come! So the next day, went back to school for an hour of briefing on the general outline of the trip, before going to the Alumni Club House for the first time to accompany them for lunch, before going off at 12.30 for Sentosa for class outing. The moment I reached, it rained. Sad. That day, was the first time I sent the most messages. And it seemed to my friends that I had a partner. Well, I'm still not attached, and I'm proud of it!

Tuesday, was spent slacking and sleeping at home.

Wednesday, was the first time I stepped into National Junior College. The atmosphere, was well, different. It was about 4.20 when I arrived, and everyone was about to enter the school. There, both sides of the team met each other for the first time, and we also knew, for the first time, the whole backbone of the plans.

Thursday, was back to training, and I seemed to have gotten worse, and my stamina had dropped.

Friday, another day to slack and sleep.

Saturday, that's yesterday. Reached the TV room at 8.30am to find that the place was still locked. At around 9am, everyone had arrived and we went in shortly after the doors were opened. Played a few ice-breaking games, and I still found it hard to remember everyone. Forgot the names of almost everyone 30 seconds after the games were played. Anyway, we got down to our groups real quick, and we successfully came up with the complete list of things to do and bring for most, if not all our activities in just 3 hours? After that, we learnt one of the college's mass dance, and it was easier compared to the one I learnt last year back at MI. Mostly hand movements which made it easy. Went for our first group lunch, and we learnt lots os stuff about the difference in our education systems. we left at 3pm. Had a minor infatuation that morning, but, I'm just glad it's gone.

Today, it's slacking and sleeping again, only that I decided on the bags to use for the trip this coming Friday.Alright. I'll say it now. I'm part of the 30-member team comprising of 2 teachers and 28 students from National Junior College and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. We're going on a 7-day trip from this Friday(Friday the 13Th) till next Thursday(19Th March...4 more days) to Cebu, the Philippines for a Community Problem Solving Project, where we will be visiting two schools for activities, and after that, we'll be back in Singapore to complete our research, report and present on the trip( definitely for some of us at NP, but not so sure about the NJC side). This would be the second time I'm going on a joint Overseas Programme. The first time was to China back in secondary school.

And, here's the plans for the up-coming week. Tomorrow, go to Grandma's place in the morning, before going to Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station to meet Jian Hui and the others for a movie, change some money if there's the time, and head back to school for taekwondo training.

On Tuesday, it's the one day where I'll slack, sleep and pack up.

Wednesday, it's back to school to pay the 400 bucks for the trip and to NJC for the second and maybe, the last time. We'll be there to learn the mass dance as well as finalise some plans for the trip on Friday.

Thursday I'll be out with WM and Jon on a tour around Singapore I guess? One of the stops is a visit to the IT fair, post my NYAA application and also to change some money if I have not done so tomorrow.

Friday, it's plain simple. Get myself and my bags to Changi International Airport Terminal 2 by 6.45am and everything else will fall into place over the next few days till the 19Th. I can't wait!

Alright, here's something random. Was interesdted in thsi quiz found on Amanda's blog, and went to try it out. Surprisingly, it's very accurate! I'm still unsure about the commitment part and the one on death seems interesting.

What is your True Fear?
Your Result: Losing Someone

You love affection and the people in your life more than anything. Your greatest fear is that one day someone you care about won't be there anymore. You are a very friendly and inviting person, who draws in a lot of friendships with your kind, considerate, and loyal nature. However, deep down you are slightly insecure and unsure of yourself. You couldn't deal with it if you didn't have one of your loved ones in your life anymore. You don't have too much to worry about though, because with a friend like you, no one will want to lose you either!

Storm's Subside

It's been 2 weeks since the storm hit, and finally, it's beginning to make its exit. Just a few more days or weeks and it will be gone for the academic year.Just 7 more days. After that, I can bid farewell to Level 1, and welcome Level 2 in April.

Let's see.. seven pojects assigned in January 2009, all seven completed before February 13th. Sadly, as I had forgotten the dates of submission, I'll just go on to the 7 projects. The first is the Engineering Drawing Project, which was really challenging. Managed to complete it just in time.

Second, I had my Communication Toolkit 2-minute impromtu speech, of which I had a high B grade.

A week later, we had our IAC group Presentation in the morning. Wegot an overall B grade for the presentation.

5th in line is the German Culture Presentation, which saw Eugene and I presenting on some food found in Germany. This project took us 2 days to preapare though. We did decently for that, but it was definitely not the most well prepared presentation of all my projects.

In sixth place we have my Economics assignment. This was the only assignment that interest me the most, probably due to the amount of content that I was able to come up with. I wrote a total of 1380 words outof the maximum of 2000 words. This assignment was submitted on Tuesday.

Finally, last but not least, was the Engineering Materials E-learning assignment. Jian Hui, Jenere and I decided to work on the Exhuast Pipe of a car. Well, this projct certaily won the 'extremely-last-minute-work' prize. We completed this project in 3 hours.I'm just expecting a boderline pass for this. If we received an A grade, it would certaily be a miracle. This project was submitted on Wednesday.

Next up, I have finally uploaded the pictures of the apartment we stayed in during the trainng camp last week. The pictures are aranged in order, from the moment one enters the main door, till the last room, which is also the largest of the apartment(Oh, and for the last two pictures, try to see if you can identify which is my former Primary school, and which is the schoo that I am currently studying in. Should nto be too hard or anyone I guess?):

Finally, a short re-cap for the week. On Monday, went to school solely for CCA, and we did basic self-defence techniques as well as basic fall-breaking techniques, before we were dismissed at 8.30pm(the earliest dismissal time so far this semester).

On Tuesday, went to school for the computeried practical test(I got killed instantly when I submitted the answers). I scored a pathetic 8 out of a possible 25 points. This was the first test which I totally did not study for due to the lack of time. Completed my last practical lesson fr th semester. Had lunch, went to take a look at the German Day exhibition at the library till 2.50pm before going for the Economis Final Test. A pass is definite, but I'm not confient of a good score.

On Wednesday, went to school only for our Engineering Mathematics E-learnin assignment submission, had lunch, took sme photographs, and slacked a little before heading home. Went back to school latr in the afternoon for trip briefing, collect some frms, made new friends, and headed home.

On Thursday, left home at 2.30pm for Marina Square to buy some guards for the up-coming competition. Spent more than 100 bucks on everything. Reached school at 5pm to submit the paperwork for the trip in March(What trip? Details coming your way soon!). Bought snacks at the Cheers! kiosk before heading to the sports complex for CCA. Training that day sure was tough. Finallyback to the expectations of most of us who were down for training, but guess I was not on top form that day.

Today, went out at 9.45am with my mum to SGH for her check-up, and we came back at 1.30pm. Slept from 2 till 5, befoe I went to try out a new route for running. In all, I sent 25 minutes, passed 9 road crossings, of which 6 had traffic lights. Total distance and average speed would be calculated on the next trail run somewhere next week when I replace the batteries on my pedometer(Got a feeling that by this point, some might think that I'm pretty organised huh).

Tomorrow I'll be at NTU for the weigh-in for the competition in 2 weeks' time. In the afternoon, maybe after lunch, I'll head down to Funan to get a 500 or 620 GB External Hardisk Drive. It's going to be stationed at home, so I wouldn't other gtting one with all the less important high-tech data protection features. If time permits in the evening, might be going to get a new pair of sandals as well.

That's all for the week, and next week, I'm only looking forward to Wednesday and Friday.

Start of the End of Level One

After today, it's going to be 2 final tests, followed by the submission of 2 final assignments, followed by one final examination, and then, I can declare that I have done my best for the semester. I'm not expecting a GPA which is said to be beyond 'godlike', which was like my previous semester where I missed the bulls-eye by a mere 0.06 points. This semester did make me feel the crunch of last minute studying which has always been a habit that I had been trying to kick. At least there is some progress.I'm expecting a GPA as low as 3.5 for this semester.

Last week I had a 2-day and 2-night training camp in school. It was suppossed to be a training camp. Yes, but I guess only the second day can truly be considered to be the most intense day of training, which left all, if not most of us, instructors and coaches included, with muscle aches(if anyone did not have any muscle ache during those trainings, something might not have been right). The lodging was great. I was expecting to be bunking at a stuffy hostel room, lined with double-decked beds and overhead fans. The rooms that we were allocated to, was an exact opposite of what I expected all along. Our dormatory was comparable to an executive suite in a 4-star hotel!Wow. Thinking of what it's like to stay in there over the night? Pictures would be up soon enough, of course, if no one stops me from putting them up. On the first day(night, i mean), we had stretching sessions. Full splits, side splits, you name it. We even had practice sessions for a couple of kicking stunts from movies! That night, was the first time I managed to hit the target with such force that the sound produced by the impact was able to echo around the corridor. Went for supper together before heading back to our rooms.

Second day we experienced a physical training session more intense than what most of my friends at the JCs are experiencing. Lots of stretching, running about, and yes, that's only half of the explaination to how all of us went home with muscle aches. We went for our campus run after that. The distance covered was definitely more than the 2.4km run, but I felt little strain from my legs. Perhaps all that stretching has made my legs so much lighter that I no longer felt much pain, at least during the half hour run. Had breakfast, then we had the highlight of the camp's training. We went training for stamina, strength and endurance. Had the best training, though it was also the toughest. After lunch, went to take a nap till 2.30pm. That was where danger set in. I dscovered I was coming down with fever later on at 3pm, when I suddenly felt I was getting weaker and weaker by the minute. Drank lots and lots of water before perspiring lots and lots during the training later on. Time really flew during that part of the training. In the evening, we went for a video session after a great dinner, probably the most exciting of all the camps I had attended. I also had the first MST(Mental Skills Training) session. It's basically about boosting self confidence and being mentally prepared before taking on a major challenge. Learnt lots during the session, but won't elaborate here though.

Went out again in the evening, before sleeping through the night. In the morning, I was back to normal again. The temperature's gone down. Had full contact sparring later on, and that was the second time I put on a headgear for sparring. Here's what happened. Went up, put on the head gear, and got into position, nothing different. Perhaps, what caught the attention of many friends was the loudest shout I gave since the first day I stepped into the club? Anyways, all I did was simply recalling as many things learnt as possible back during the days of training after the incident at TP. Footwork, taking risks, waiting for the perfect chance, making full use of the time window. I still don't know whether I had improved alot, though I know that I did improve on my footwork. Still have much work to be done on perfecting my evasive techniques and counters though.

Today's training was extremely relaxed. Learnt some self defence techniques and fall-breaking techniques, before heading for dinner with the committee. Now, I'm back home, stomach feeling queasy from drinking too much water, and I have lost the mood to study for the computerised practical test tomorrow. Only one word is in my mind. Bed. Tomorrow's going to be one long day, so hopefully I can return to sleep at 1am.

JAE 09 Day 3

*Before I begin, some parts of the post might not be allowed to be posted in here(I'm not sure if everything I have posted here is allowed), so, if there is a certain segment of the post which you might not wish to be included in here, please do leave a tag. Thank you.*

Today, for the first time this term, things seemed to be coming back onto the right track, at least academically. CCA wise, I'm still on the downside.

Today was the day for interdisciplinary Studies modules, and I'm still taking up the modules Individual And the Community and Communication Toolkit. Our survey questions and interview questions were great, meaning that for now, we're on step closer to the coverted 'A' grade for the module, thus, the need to carry on at the current pace.

As for Communication Toolkit, things were getting better, as I got damn close to the targeted 'A' grade. I got a B+ grade instead for the 2 minute impromtu speech, which I guess I did put in some effort. I lacked the courage, as well as the proper pronunciation which has always been my weakness. I can still remember parts of the speech, though it might not be the actual or complete version of what I presented in class today:

"Well, before I begin, I would like everyone to imagine. You are on a plane, which is already in line with the runway, and is about to land. Suddenly, you feel the aircraft land on the runway. Next, you hear the steward's announcement," Ladies and Gentlemen, we have landed at Terminal 3 of Singapore Changi International Airport. Thank you for travelling with our airline and have a nice day!" Everyone, we are now in Singapore.

Well, my topic for today is on Tourism in Singapore, and I would like to inform you about the up coming tourist locations in Singapore, as well as give a brief introduction about the nightlife of Singapore.

Firstly, Singapore has many upcoming tourist locations, such as the Integrated Resort at the Marina area, which would be completed in future. The Integrated Resort would provide 10000 jobs for the people in the tourism industry, and it also houses one of the first two casinos in Singapore. Next, at Singapore's island resort, Sentosa, there are resorts and golf courses, as well as three beaches there. I'm sorry, but Australian women are not allowed to move around topless at the beaches. Next, There are also new shopping centres coming up along Orchard Road in the near future.

Moving on to my second point, I would now introuduce briefly the nightlife in Singapore. There are nightclubs mainly at Harbourfront and Clarke Quay, and once there, you would hear the frequent exclaimations of 'Cheers' among merrymen after they are served their alcoholic drinks.

Finally, in summary, I have informed everyonr about the upcoming tourism locations in Singapore, as well as given everyone a brief introduction about the nightlife in Singapore. I believe that, as long as the Singapore government could overcome obstacles like the Singapore flyer incident where visitors 'enjoyed' five and a half hours of free flight without any air conditioning, and of course, without the wheel moving at all, in future, at the rate Singapore is proressing, the tourism industry in Singapore would definitely prosper.Thank you."

For now, my current grade should be around a C grade. Just have to do well for the remaining 3 weeks for both modules, and I would be able to gain at least a decent GPA of 3.5 just for these 2.

After class today, went to the convention centre for the JAE once again, but today, it was a little boring. There were nto many people of whom I knew who were there today, though I managed to make a couple of new friends along the way. After 5.30pm, I was mentally and physically drained once again, and left for CCA, which left me even more mentally and physically drained. For now, I just hope that I would be able to wake in time for school tomorrow, which would be my fourth and final day at the convention centre for the week and the last day of JAE.

Week of Tests

In this week alone, there were 4 tests, on 4 consecutive days. It's been months since I last had one test a day for a whole week. Monday was like a rest day, with only 3 hours of school and CCA in the evening.

Tuesday was my first Economics test, in the form of an online quiz. I got my first A grade this semester from that quiz! Yeah! Wednesday, had our Engineering Materials Test, and, I would be getting a grade ranging from a B to an A. An A+ would be a miracle for I had lost 10 marks before the test had ended. Got back my Mathematics Quiz as well on that day, and I lost 2 marks to a careless mistake. It's had for me to get 100% of any test correct without any form of error, so that made my first A+ grade for this semester, another A grade.

On Thursday, I met Priscilla after I alighted from the bus, when she was about to board the bus I took to school. That day, I had my first written test in almost a year. I had to write a small section of an information paper, but the total word count had to be no more than 250 words long. Obviously, I exceeded the word limit as it was almost an impossibility for me to keep within word limits. I ended up with 280 words, but anyway, the 3 mark penalty was expected even before I started the paper. I'm confident of scoring near full marks for grammar and content, though I face the possibility of getting as low as a C grade for the test. As usual, I went home to take a short nap, before heading back for CCA in the evening. Training, wasn't really training for me that day, for I was not yet a full-fletched STF member, and thus, was not yet qualified to participate in the IVP. After the warm-up, I joined one round of training, before I sat at one corner and did nothing for the remaining one hour. Maybe I should just go for training on Monday until I there is something for me to train on Thursdays? I met quite a number of familiar faces during that one hour, but well, not sure if I even saw them. First was Jerome who was walking past the training area at around 8pm, followed by Joycelyn some time later. I think I did wave at her, but then again, I think I did not see her there at all. Later that night, she confirmed that she had waved at me, but somehow I guess I was seeing things, as I did not remember waving to her. Maybe it was me, maybe it was me subconsciously. Strange eh? After training that night, I saw Kash, and by then, I guess I regained my consciousness in a way, for I was able to walk up to have a short conversation with him.

Today, had a role play test for German, and I guess it did not go very well again, for it was purely last minute preparation on the spot. Left for CCA again later on, and went for dinner after that. Tonight had been an eventful night, but next Sunday, something big is going to happen, and we're going to be part of it!

Alright, this concludes the 150Th post in this blog! Looking forward to next week...

Teachers' Day 2007 Phototgraphs

Here are some of the photographs taken during yesterday's Teachers' Day celebrations in school. Most of the pictures were obtained from Andy and yesterday's official and in-official photographers(thanks for the pictures).Following are the pictures taken on the first and second day of the decorating process:

An essential hand-made item for every celebration and party,the invitation card:

The very first item that the team started work on, the two Banners...
The first:

Andy,Weng Ling,Banu and Carina are really focused on the cuttings

Siang Lin and her 'C'

The Black background's finally up,and O.o why does Siang Lin has an additional pair of hands???

4E1's very first bubble tea shop:Happy Tea~

and it feels great to have Afian back as our assistant and advisor on Wednesday~

Now,on to the second:
This is one of the toughest tasks for the decorations,as instead of drawing and colouring, friends had to cut out templates for the spray painting to be carried out...

Randall,Banu,Gloria,Yong An(I think), Kuan Wei and Ying Xiu decorating and wrapping up the wine glasses to be used as gifts for the teachers

The end products~

There, a reunion of the founding members of ELDDS Drama Society, two years after their debut performance at the Drama of History Competition in 2005(could this be their swan song?PS:hope not)...

Not to forget:Damien's performance that was a real morale booster for those who were decorating the class on Thursday. It sure was a great start to the long time we took to decorate the class on the second day...Thanks Damien~

Classmates busy putting up the decorations for the actual day all the way till nine in the evening on Thursday even though it was getting late. Must have been tough on everyone,but it seemed like everyone was not tired yet...This was,to me, the best 6 hours I had spent during the two days of decorating the classroom for the BIG event and I enjoyed myself thoroughly during those times!

The ribbons and balloons going up to create the "red-carpet" effect for Ms Lim and the other subject teachers of class 4E1

An attempt to dress up the lights with glass paper(if that's what they're called) to create the ambiance of being in a nightclub,with the final touches being made to the rest of the classroom(the backdrop aka the banner for the 'stage') This is a job suited only for the very tall of 4E1

Damien with Yong An and Wei Xiang performing an item for the camera~

Yea~Mr Liew was back to see us!Well, at least we were glad that he was well enough to at least pay us a visit late at night in school,when we were working against time to complete the surprise for the teachers, especially Ms Lim the next day.Thanks Mr Liew, and do get well soon~

Some extra photographs taken on the way home on Thursday night(a typical student does not always experience this often on his/her way home from school at night):

The new school building at night(seems nice)

Into the darkness

30minutes later at 9.50pm:

I think the others will reach hoe before I do,but,I'm almost home~
The full moon was really big that evening(the blue light in the horizon), sure is a once in a blue moon sort of thing...

Now,On to the actual day:

The side gate was reported and was to be locked at all times yesterday(as instructed by the security guard)...

ACES DAY:you don't always get to see this in school, teachers wearing the school PE attire.

A pose for the camera

Mr Chia enjoying a game of floor ball in a teachers-students game at the street soccer court behind the techinical block

The 4E1 team,formed at the eleventh hour,beating another student's team to get a chance to get back at the teachers!

Alas!The moment that class 4E1 had been waiting for has arrived! The drama item put up by the founding members of the ELDDS Drama Society who took part in the Drama of History competition and clinched thrid place for the school in 2005. Here, there are two guest-stars in this performance.Can you identify them?(Hint:look at the earlier photographs)

Group, Pair and class photos taken during the celebrations in class 4E1:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Post-Teachers' Day Celebrations at class 4E1, YCSS
Sadly,some of the decorations had to go,although we were given the green light by Ms Lim to keep some of them
Finally, this is the very first batch of photographs that I had put up on this blog, after almost another year of blogging, so, this is my "surprise" to mark two years of blogging?As a matter of fact, these are just some of the photographs which I obtained from Andy's,Steven's and Damien's blogs(since they're among the first to have the pictures up).It's thanks to them that I was able to put these up as a mini album.
If only times like these never failed to occur day after day,month after month and year after year. If that was so, how enjoyable life would be for all of us...
